Barry Larkin: steroid users should be banned like Pete Rose

The retired baseball player Barry Larkin claims about his negative attitude to sportspeople who have ever administered steroids and/or other forbidden preparations. He thinks that such baseball players that have ever been associated with doping products must not enter the Baseball Hall of Fame. To enter the Hall of Fame is the greatest honor which is gotten by baseball players. Barry Larkin has been elected for the Hall of Fame last year. He believes that consumers of steroids should not get the greatest honor. They should understand that they have made a serious mistake, when they have decided to use anabolic steroids and/or other related medications. Their decision points that they should be kept out of this club forever.
Barry Larkin belongs to the most successful baseball players. He has receieved some awards, while playing baseball professionally.
Barry Larkin also notes about Pete Rose who is kept out of the Baseball Hall of Fame. This man has gambled on baseball games. That’s why he has been suspended from professional baseball for the entire life. So, he doesn’t have any possibility to be introduced to the Hall of Fame. Barry Larkin says that those who have ever used forbidden drugs should get similar sanction. They must not be in the Hall of Fame.
Barry Larkin has played during the steroid era. He doesn’t plan to blame those that have played with and against him. He doesn’t make rash conclusions about other baseball players. Barry Larkin notices that no any athlete should be demonized, if his guilt has not been proven. He is claimed to be innocent until it will be evident that he has actually applied steroids and/or other related products.
Barry Larkin also takes part in educating young sportspersons about dangers associated with intake of anabolic steroids. He has formed a charity foundation that has been called after his name. So, the former successful baseball player puts substantial efforts in order to make baseball clean. He urges young athletes not to administer steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. Barry Larkin desires to see baseball drug-free.

FDA met with states’ representatives to discuss contamination with meningitis

The fungal meningitis outbreak that began in September last year had great influence upon America. Contaminated injectable steroids were manufactured by the New England Compounding Center (based in Massachusetts) and given to many persons. As a result, more than 400 persons sickened with fungal meningitis in over 20 states. 39 persons sickened with this disease died. 14 deaths were in Tennessee.
It became evident that it needed to do anything for prevention of such situations. Contamination must not occur in future. The FDA had to meet with representatives of all states for discussion of this situation. So, lately a conference took place in order to prevent occurring contamination in the future.
It was underlined during the meeting that new laws on compounding centers should be implemented.
Representatives of several states affirmed that they did proper job in their states and no any individual suffered from troubles related to contamination. Furthermore, they underlined with criticism that they didn’t know what happened in other states.
As for the FDA, its authority over such cases is limited. Federal court cases which were during past years cut the authority of the FDA obviously. In addition to these unpleasant aspects, several rules seem to be unclear.
Margaret Hamburg, the FDA Commissioner, offered to improve the situation through the following modifications:
- to manage training of state regulators;
- to promote sharing information between the FDA and states;
- to eradicate ambiguity from rules.

These proposals seem to be justifiable. Such modifications will probably help to promote improving public health of Americans. Undoubtedly, if rules contain ambiguity, no any agreement will be reached. That’s why new laws should be implemented and existing laws should be altered.
The FDA hopes that state regulators will collaborate with it in order to prevent manufacturing and shipping contaminated drugs.

Will you notice about Lance Armstrong’s downfall, thinking about sports of 2012?

The year 2012 has gone away. Thinking about 2012, what will you affirm about sports? Which names will you pronounce? Will you talk over great baseball players? Will you say about the ashamed American cyclist Lance Armstrong? Will you say about the Summer Olympics? Will you mention about concussions of football players? Will you notice about suicides committed by several professional football players? What will you notice about Melky Cabrera?
Of course, anyone will remember the case related to Lance Armstrong while speaking about sports of 2012. Each individual will mention about the role of anabolic steroids in cycling and in other sports. Any individual will notice about possible undesirable results of steroids used for performance-enhancing effects. Any individual interested in sports will remember what journalists have presented about steroids, lying in sports and certain methods of sportspeople to succeed in professional sports.
Thinking about sports of 2012, you will probably note about the steroid era in baseball and integrity of this sport. You will also notice about dreadful deeds of Jerry Sandusky and his athletic career at Penn State.
But let think what future generations will remember. What will historians discuss one hundred years later? Will they draw attention on stories related to James LeBron, Melky Cabrera and Jerry Sandusky? Will they talk over concussions of professional football players? Although they will possibly talk over these cases, the hottest debates will be related to Lance Armstrong’s steroid scandal. This is a case which will be never forgotten. A lot of persons will remember achievements of Lance Armstrong in cycling and his further downfall. Of course, they will also note about his foundation Livestrong and influence of his ashamed reputation upon the charity organization. They will remember that administration of anabolic steroids led Lance Armstrong to loss of Tour de France titles, distancing from the organization Livestrong and certain other troubles. Lance Armstrong will be ever in the memory of the American society.

Unfair decisions of BBAA’s members

Fans of baseball and a lot of other individuals seem to be perturbed by results of voting for the Hall of Fame. Some great players have not entered the Baseball Hall of Fame. It is not surprisingly that you also ask why they have not been supported. Under rules of voting, those that have manifested great baseball abilities and contributed to their teams obviously should be elected. It goes without saying that such baseball players, as Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, Mark McGwire and several other individuals have shown amazing skills and achievements while playing professionally. Why aren’t they in the Baseball Hall of Fame?
Many voters say that they will never support those that have ever been related to steroids and/or other related preparations. Dopers must be sanctioned. Future generations should understand that they will never really have success in sports, if they administer doping products.
What would you do, if you were a member of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America? Would you support steroid users?
In fact, voters never possess complete information about admitted and suspected steroid users. You can’t prove that Roger Clemens has really administered performance-enhancing drugs. Many persons have suspicions but there is no any proof. Why should voters refuse to support this baseball player? Are they sure that he has applied anabolic steroids and other banned drugs? –No, they aren’t. That’s why it is unfair to keep Roger Clemens out of the Baseball Hall of Fame only because of suspicions.
While certain voters are ready to support suspected consumers of steroids, they affirm that they will never vote for an admitted steroid user. Although it seems to be fair, let review the situation better! Have steroids played any essential role in success of certain baseball player? For example, if even Roger Clemens has administered performance-enhancing drugs, it is possible to convince anyone that he has succeeded not because of steroids. Great accomplishment of this celebrated baseball player have been manifested before his alleged steroid use. According to some affirmations, Roger Clemens has used steroids since 1998 and then in 2000 and 2001.  But the most amazing achievements have been done by him before 1998. So, nobody can claim that anabolic steroids have helped Roger Clemens to succeed in professional baseball. That’s why he should be in the Hall of Fame.
Furthermore, why are many individuals inclined to blame only consumers of steroids? Isn’t it the society that presses athletes to start taking steroids and other related preparations?

Do Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens have chance to be in Hall of Fame?

Some members of the Baseball Hall of Fame affirm that users of steroids must never be in their club. They think that such baseball players, as Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens should be kept out of the Baseball Hall of Fame. They are very happy that these persons didn’t receive needed percentage of voting to enter the Hall of Fame. According to them, it is fair. They think that otherwise our kids get confused. They will suggest that they are allowed to apply steroids and whatever they want and remain unpunished. So, it would be a negative example for future generations. Al Kaline, Goose Gossage and several others that belong to the Baseball Hall of Fame have this opinion. They even notice about cycling, as a good example to follow.
What occurred actually in cycling? The celebrated American cyclist was accused of using prohibited medicines. As a result, he was deprived of his 7 Tour de France titles and sentenced to life-time ban.
Thus, several members of the Baseball Hall of Fame claim that cycling is a good example for baseball. Baseball players that are found guilty of doping should be excluded from this sport wholly. Record books must not include information about success of those that have been caught using forbidden substances. Those that have lied should be punished appropriately.
Nevertheless, not every member of the Baseball Hall of Fame has this point of view. For example, Juan Marichal supports Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, etc. He affirms that these baseball players should be in the Hall of Fame. These athletes are stars in baseball. Nobody could prove that they have really administered performance-enhancing drugs. Since there is no any proof, suspicions cost nothing.
Under rules connected with voting for the Hall of Fame, baseball players that have amazing skills and those that have contributed to their teams evidentially should be in the Hall of Fame.  Nobody doubts that Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens were great players. They made obvious contributions to their teams. That’s why they should enter the Hall of Fame.

Don’t forget: Angel “Memo” Hernandez is scientist

Any fan saw that the physique of the American boxer Juan Manuel Marquez had been altered evidentially. What led to such significant changes in the sportsman?
Since Juan Manuel Marquez is linked to the admitted steroid dealer Angel “Memo” Hernandez, a lot of persons suspect that the boxer’s muscles have been increased because of steroids and/or other related preparations. Angel “Memo” Hernandez has been employed as a strength coach of Juan Manuel Marquez. This person was connected with the BALCO scandal. As it was learnt, this man supplied numerous elite sportspersons with steroids and other related products. He provided information about certain athletes who obtained forbidden products from him.
Finding out that Angel “Memo” Hernandez has been a steroid dealer, numerous individuals suggest that he provides performance-enhancing drugs to Juan Manuel Marquez. Several suspicions and even accusations were expressed by Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao’s trainer. Freddie Roach expressed the desire to subject the both boxers Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao to testing before the fight.
Actually, Freddie Roach’s suspicions were not based on any drug evidence. He focused only on increased muscles of Juan Manuel Marquez.
Later Manny Pacquiao’s trainer said that he didn’t mean anything serious. He claimed that he was just joking.
Angel “Memo” Hernandez noticed that he was not just a coach. Since he is a scientist, he possesses great knowledge. He knows the best methods to enhance muscles and gain strength. Angel “Memo” Hernandez claims that he knows the methods to do it legally. No any illegal drug is included in his methods. But he refuses to reveal the ways. The coach specifies that this is a secret.
As for Juan Manuel Marquez, he claimed that he never used any banned drug. He noticed that it was not drugs that caused the evident changes in his physique. Furthermore, he specified that weight was not the main factor while fighting. According to him, a fighter should possess intelligence, speed and strength in order to win.
Neither Juan Manuel Marquez, nor Manny Pacquiao was tested for forbidden medicines before the match. Such tests are normally conducted by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after matches.
